Kwaku Kwarteng Petitions NMC Over NDC Death Wish

Kwaku Kwarteng the Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi West Constituency has petitioned the National Media Commission (NMC) over what he describes as a death wish pronounced on him by one Mariama Seidu, the NDC Women’s Organiser for the CMB Shed Branch in the Constituency.

He said public pronouncement and public prayer by political party executives for the death of their political opponents is dangerous and unhealthy for the democracy and the cohesion of Ghana as a society.

In a statement the Obuasi West Constituency Legislature noted that the media should not encourage and should not provide their platform for propagating such unhealthy and dangerous pronouncements.

“I write respectfully to complain about Onua TV for broadcasting a death wish pronounced on me by Ms Mariama Seidu, the NDC Women’s Organiser for the CMB Shed Branch in the Obuasi West Constituency.”

it added: “On Thursday, 8th June 2023, Onua TV organized a live outdoor activity they called, the People’s Assembly in Obuasi. In the course of the live programme, an Onua TV journalist, Ms Yaa Titi offered the programme’s platform to Ms Mariama Seidu who pronounced her death wish on me and prayed that I should die so that there may be a by-election for the constituency.”
