GPHA is committed to ensuring efficient handling of cargo – DG

Mr. Michael Achagwe Luguje, the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), has stated that the company is committed to ensuring the efficient and effective handling of cargo through the offering of port facilities.

Mr. Luguje said the GPHA was willing to collaborate with its current and prospective clients to bring more business to Ghana’s ports.

He said this when a delegation from the Burkina Faso Chamber of Commerce led by its Director General, Mr. Mahamady Koussoube, paid a working visit to the GPHA.

The visit was aimed at discussing matters of mutual interest and strengthening trade ties between the two institutions, especially in transit trade.

He noted that their responsibility was to provide port facilities and ensure that cargo and ships were0 handled efficiently.

“It is the cargo that gives us business, so we are always happy to work and collaborate with anybody that will help bring business through our ports,” he stated.

Mr. Luguje gave the assurance that the GPHA would continue to play its critical role in facilitating trade for the Burkina Faso Chamber of Commerce and other landlocked groupings, adding that the collaboration between the two institutions was commendable.

He said the attempt to develop the transit trade into the landlocked countries started in Burkina Faso, adding that the Chamber of Commerce was their first point of contact.

“Way back in 1998 and 1999, the Burkina Chamber of Commerce has been at the forefront of facilitating our entry into Burkina Faso, acting as our spokesperson in Burkina Faso to promote Ghana’s ports,” he added.
