Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, has requested the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to launch a comprehensive investigation into alleged corruption in the award of road contracts.
The request follows allegations of corruption surrounding the award of road contracts, as made public by Prof. Stephen Adei in a recent interview with TV3, a private television station in Ghana.
In the interview aired on Friday, October 20, 2023, Prof. Adei claimed that individuals seeking road contracts are asked for an upfront payment of GH¢1 million.

A statement by the the Ministry of Roads and Highways, stated, “These allegations are surprising, given that the processes leading to the award of road contracts are open, transparent, competitive, and in accordance with the law.”
“To address the seriousness of the claims, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, took immediate action. Today, on October 23, 2023, he officially requested the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to launch a comprehensive investigation into the alleged corruption.”
The statement affirmed the ministry’s dedication to transparency and accountability, stating, “Given that the alleged conduct borders on the commission of a crime against the Republic, we are fully cooperating with EOCO. We will provide all necessary support to facilitate a thorough and impartial investigation.”
The Ministry assured a thorough and unbiased investigation into the allegations in close collaboration with EOCO.
The Ministry urges the public to have confidence in the investigative process and reassures the citizens that any proven wrongdoing will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
