Minority demands clarity into medical credentials of Dr. Ann Sansa Daly’s

The Minority in Parliament has formally written to the Ghana Medical and Dental Council (GMDC), demanding verification of the medical registration status of Ann Sansa Daly.

Ranking Member of Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, in a letter addressed to the Registrar of the Council, Dr. Afriye asked for urgent clarification regarding whether Dr. Daly is duly registered and licensed to practice medicine in Ghana.

This demand comes in the wake of President John Dramani Mahama’s revocation of Sansa Daly’s appointment as a Board Member of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and her increasing presence on national television, especially on GHOne TV, where she is seen offering medical advice to the public.

The letter raises three key questions for the GMDC:

  1. Whether Dr. Ann Sansa Daly is currently registered and licensed by the GMDC to practice medicine in Ghana.
  2. Whether she has ever been registered by the Council in any capacity, including temporary or permanent status.
  3. Whether GMDC regulations permit an unregistered individual to publicly present themselves as a medical doctor or offer medical advice in Ghana.

According to Dr. Afriye, this verification is being requested in the public interest to ensure that individuals appearing in the media and offering health guidance are properly vetted and meet all legal and professional requirements.

The Minority also called on the Council to coordinate with its counterpart regulatory body in the United States to confirm Dr. Daly’s status within a week, indicating that the matter involves international scrutiny as well.

“The Ghana Medical and Dental Council plays a vital role in safeguarding public health through the regulation of medical practice. It is therefore essential that the public receives guidance from only qualified and authorized medical professionals,” Dr. Afriye noted in his letter.
