Minority files motion challenging First Deputy Speaker’s ruling

The Minority in Parliament has filed a Motion challenging the ruling of First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei-Owusu of Wednesday, 1st December, 2021.

The ruling was on a recession motion moved by the Minority that challenged the purported approval of the 2022 budget on Tuesday 30th December 2021.

The Motion filed by Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 is praying the House to set aside the ruling of the First Deputy Speaker, “on grounds that it contravenes the rules, conventions and practices of the House and was actuated by bias.

According to the Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC), the presiding First Deputy Speaker’s ruling throwing out their earlier motion is an affront to the rules and procedures of the House.

”The motion will only be tabled before the House for debate and consideration after 48-hours has elapsed, per the procedures of the House,

That This Honourable House;
Sets aside the purported Ruling of the 1st Deputy Speaker, Mr. Joseph Osei-Owusu, MP delivered on Wednesday, 1st December, 2021 against the Motion moved by the Hon. Minority Leader, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu and seconded by the Hon. Member for Bawku Central, Mr. Mahama Ayariga, as captured on page 9 of the Votes and Proceedings of Wednesday, 1st December 2021, On grounds that it contravenes the Rules, Conventions and Practices of the House.
