Minority leader Dr. Ato Forson calls for calm in NDC

New Minority leader in Parliament Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has called for calm in the rank and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and assured their legislators are in good hands.

The new leadership, he said, will work with the entire caucus with due diligence and also demonstrate leadership.

He assured that as the Minority leader, the first responsibility and number one agenda will be to unite the caucus and ensure the success of the party in Parliament.

Ato Forson gave the assurance on Thursday January 26 in his first engagement with the media as the new Minority leader in Parliament.

He disclosed he has had fruitful and positive conversations with Haruna Iddrisu, the former Minority leader, and commended him for his admirable leadership and stewardship when he was granted the opportunity by the party to lead the Minority in Parliament.

“It will be my duty to represent our collective goals, in particular with an unwavering dedication and most importantly with high integrity.”

“I have no doubt that with support of the entire caucus in Parliament we shall succeed,” he said.

The Minority leader fired salvos at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration and called on President Akufo-Addo to downsize his government to reflect the mood of the country.

Ghanaians, he said, are demanding the government to also sacrifice the same way it is asking ordinary Ghanaians to forgo their interests in the Domestic Debt Exchange programme and sacrifice their payouts.

“So, therefore, if President Akufo-Addo intends to reshuffle his government let it be known that we in the NDC will not accept an attempt to increase the size of government.”

“And if the current size of his ministers increases by one, that one person may not receive our cooperation.”

Mr. Ato Forson disclosed the Minority will conduct its own public hearing on the audit of the COVID-19 expenditure as part of its engagement with the Finance and Health Committees beginning on 7th February, 2023.

The Minority, he said, will pay due diligence to the duties entrusted to it by the people of Ghana.

He indicated the NDC will also embark on a road show to galvanize and educate Ghanaians on the meaning of the ongoing economic crisis.
