Minority vows to resist further delays in approving anti-gay Bill

The Minority in Parliament has sounded a note of warning they will not tolerate any further delays in passing the anti-gay bill, which promotes proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values.

Last week, Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin proposed an amendment to the bill just before its third reading. The amendment aimed to replace jail terms with community service for offenders.

As a result, the House was compelled to consider the thirteen proposed amendments introduced by the Effutu MP.

The second consideration stage is scheduled for today, Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

Ahead of this stage, the Minority Chief Whip Kwame Governs Agbodza has called on Mr Afenyo-Markin to complete any necessary consultations regarding his proposed amendments.

He warned that any actions perceived as prolonging the process beyond today will not be tolerated by the Minority.

“We should also be clear in our minds that we will not unduly always find a reason to postpone the progress of this bill to another day. Because, as we said the other day, everything that he [Afenyo-Markin] has raised in his proposal, he took about an hour here speaking about it, but he keeps giving reasons why we cannot deal with it. So we are giving him ample time to do the consultation because there will be no more filibustering after Wednesday.”
