Minority Women’s Caucus calls on Chief Imam; Appeals for prayers and guidance for next year

The Minority Female Caucus in Parliament has paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, to extend warm seasonal greetings and seek his counsel as the year comes to a close.

The Caucus prayed for the Chief Imam’s continued good health and wisdom, acknowledging his invaluable leadership in promoting harmony and understanding among diverse communities.

Speaking during the visit on Wednesday, December 20, the leader of the Caucus and Second Deputy Minority Whip, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe highlighted Ghanaian expectations for a fair and violence-free electoral process.

The team included Lydia Lamisi Akanvariva, MP for Tempane Constituency; Theresa Lardi Awuni, MP for Okaikoi North, and Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, MP for Dadekotopon.

She appealed to the Chief Imam to leverage his esteemed position to advocate for transparent elections, emphasizing the need to uphold democratic values.

“Your guidance and influence can play a pivotal role in fostering a peaceful and transparent electoral process.”

“We humbly implore you to use your esteemed position to advocate for a fair and violence-free election, ensuring our democratic values remain untarnished,” he appealed.

Reflecting on the scars of electoral malpractices during the 2020 elections, the Caucus emphasized the importance of preventing incidents of violence and expressed hope for the Chief Imam’s intervention in fostering peace throughout the electoral process, urging various institutions to play a role in ensuring a smooth transition of power.

The Caucus extended a humble request for fervent prayers during the festive season and prayers for a victorious 2024 for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and former President John Dramani Mahama.

Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu expressed gratitude for the visit and affirmed his commitment to promoting peace and unity.

He said, “I will pray for a peaceful electoral process, and I hope that Ghanaians will unite for the progress and development of our beloved nation.”

The Minority Female Caucus concluded the visit by presenting 40 bags of rice and GH¢10,000 cash to the Chief Imam and thanking him for the unique opportunity.

Some members of the Okaikoi Central women’s executive joined the MPs at the Chief Imam’s residence to offer their support to the Caucus.
