Nana Kwabena Agyei, an 83-year-old chief at Adagyamamu in the Tano North Municipality, and his people have expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the extension of electricity to the cocoa growing community.
“I never dreamt we could have electricity extension to this community. In the past 83 years myself and my people have slept in total darkness and we could not believe a government like the NPP will come and alleviate our plight”, the chief stated.
Nana Agyei confessed though his people had since 1992 voted in favour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the former NDC governments promised but failed to extend electricity to the area.
“So, it’s more like we are dreaming today because we never thought the NPP would listen to us and extend power to this community because of our voting pattern”, Nana Agyei said when Dr. Freda Prempeh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area inaugurated the electricity
extension project in the community.
The MP, also the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, facilitated the extension of the power supply to the farming community and three others – Mamponteng, Asantesua and Domeabra.
Already, through the support of the MP, about 12 other communities in the Bomaa enclave had been connected to the national grid.
Nana Agyei assured the MP and the government that he would personally influence his people to show appreciation to the NPP for the gesture by voting for the Party in the next general election.
He, however, appealed to the MP to facilitate the acquisition of electricity meters for some residents to enjoy the power supply, saying “in fact my people have slept in the darkness for a long time and everybody must enjoy the electricity”.
Nana Agyei added that would help the people to avoid the temptation of connecting power into their homes illegally.
“Wherever I find myself in life, I try to ensure that the lives of the people are improved irrespective of one’s political colour”, Dr. Prempeh stated and entreated the people to support the NPP government.
The MP appealed to the people that she needed their support to retain the seat in Election 2024 to enable her to continue with the on-going development projects in the constituency.
Dr. Prempeh expressed appreciation to her colleague, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, for his support towards electricity extension projects in the area, saying only few of the communities in the area were yet to be connected to the national grid.
