The Ghana National Awards 2024, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, celebrated eight distinguished institutions for their exemplary contributions to national development and global partnerships.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented the awards as part of the nation’s efforts to recognize and encourage excellence across various sectors.
1. Ghana Armed Forces
The Ghana Armed Forces, represented by Lt. Gen. Oppong Peprah, Chief of Defence Staff, received an award for their unwavering dedication to safeguarding the nation’s borders against external threats and ensuring national security.
2. Ghana Police Service
The Ghana Police Service, represented by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, was recognized for its critical role in maintaining law and order across the country, contributing to peace and stability.
3. Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences
The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences was honoured for its significant role during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Academy provided real-time data, modelling, and advocacy that guided the national response, effectively mitigating the virus’s impact.
4. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
The UNDP was recognised for its impactful contributions to Ghana’s development, particularly in advancing sustainable development initiatives and fostering international cooperation.
5. China-Africa Development Fund
The China-Africa Development Fund was awarded for its pivotal role in strengthening Ghana’s infrastructure and fostering economic development through strategic investments and partnerships.
6. International Organisation for Migration (IOM)
The International Organisation for Migration was acknowledged for its efforts in supporting migration management, enhancing livelihoods, and promoting safe and orderly migration practices in Ghana.
7. Ghana Immigration Service
The Ghana Immigration Service was commended for its instrumental role in managing Ghana’s borders and facilitating legal migration, contributing to national security and socio-economic growth.
The awards ceremony celebrated the dedication and impact of these institutions in their respective fields, highlighting their vital contributions to Ghana’s progress and global reputation.
8. Ghana Prisons Service
The Ghana Prisons Service was recognised for its contribution to the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society, as well as its efforts in maintaining security and promoting human dignity within the correctional system.
President Akufo-Addo reiterated the importance of recognising and supporting institutions that embody excellence and resilience, urging all stakeholders to continue collaborating for the nation’s prosperity.
