13 Arrested as Gov’t Cracks Down on Illegal Forex Trading

A joint National Security task force has arrested 13 persons engaged in illegal exchange of foreign currencies.

The Team comprised personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the National Intelligence Bureau and the National Fusion Center of the Ministry of National Security

The operation, conducted around Osu and Tudu both suburbs of Accra is in a bid to curb further depreciation of the dollar and regulate forex trading,.

The Team retrieved various sums of money from the suspects including- USD17,840- CUSD1,450- Naira 515,000- and CFA1,167,000.

Additionally, GH¢419,685, €230, and 50 Egyptian pounds were also retrieved.

The suspects and all exhibits have since been handed over to the police for investigation and prosecution.

The Team however, intends to replicate the operation across the country expected to help the Bank of Ghana regulate forex trading in the country.
