A strong show of force was displayed today as a team of National Security operatives besieged the residence of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), known as Chairman Wontumi, at Paraku Estate.
The early Friday operation involved both police officers and National Security operatives, who stormed Wontumi’s home to execute a search warrant.
The reasons behind the raid remain unclear though reports indicate there was a search warrant. There were earlier claims suggesting that Chairman Wontumi was placed under house arrest, but his exact whereabouts during the operation were not confirmed.
The arrival of the security forces quickly attracted a substantial crowd of Chairman Wontumi’s supporters and several senior NPP officials from the region, who converged at the scene.
As tensions rose, the situation escalated into a confrontation, leading to the eventual withdrawal of the security operatives.
