The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in collaboration with the security agencies have begun investigations into the circumstances leading to the clash between some residents of Manso Tontokrom and Security Personnel of Asanko Gold Mine Limited, in the Amansie South District in the Ashanti Region.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry described the occurrence which resulted in the death of three as disturbing, stressing that calm has been restored at the mine site and in the community.
The statement assured the public that the perpetrators of the act will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the country if found culpable.
“However, we, therefore, commend the DISEC for their continuous support in ensuring peace within the confines of Tontokrom. The Ministry urges all the stakeholders in and around Tontokrom to remain calm as we look comprehensively into the matter” it noted.
It may be recalled that an altercation between residents of Manso Tontokrom and Asanko Gold Mine security personnel on Saturday, March 2, 2024, led to the death of three people.
So far four people have been arrested following the clash.
