NDC Do or Die race: Duffuor more credible – Boateng Gyan declares

Former National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan has stated Dr. Kwabena Duffuor is more credible and competent enough to lead the NDC and Ghana.

The former Finance Minister under late President Mills, he said, has the experience, the capacity, and the brain to be president of Ghana and that he, Wofa Yaw Boateng Gyan, will gladly accept to chair his campaign team.

Mr. Yaw Boateng Gyan told the Ghanaian Publisher in an interview that if Dr. Kwabena Duffuor declares his intention to contest as the party’s flagbearer in 2024, he will glady work for him to become the presidential candidate for the party

“Even Prof Mills, as sitting president was challenged by Mrs. Rawlings ahead of the 2012 election, so what is wrong if somebody wants to challenge a former president and former flagbearer.”

“Everyone in the NDC has a right to decide who they want to support for next year’s presidential primaries and I’m willing to support and work for Dr Duffuor,” he stated.

“Our party is a well-grounded democratic party and every party member with good standing has a right to determine who should lead the party at any point.”

“We won’t sit down for people with no root in the party to destroy it. Some of us have suffered serving this party and we will do everything to protect the NDC.”

According to him, the economic feat achieved in the first four years of NDC under the presidency of Prof Mills was led by Dr. Duffuor and that everyone wanted him to continue after winning 2012, but Mr Mahama supriningly appointed Seth Terkper to the disbelief of most people in the party and then things got out of hand leading to the 2016 defeat.

In an interview on Neatfm on Wednesday, the former National Organiser also criticized the decision to make Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman the running mate to John Mahama in the 2020 elections saying she brought nothing in terms of fortunes to the party

“The decision to make Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman as our running mate was a very poor decision. She was a bad choice. She added nothing to our fortunes. I would say she was a monumental flop as running mate to President John Mahama,” he stated.

Yaw Boateng Gyan emphasized that some of them were rooting for Dr. Kwabena Duffour as the party’s running mate but for some strange reasons, a politically naive Naana Opoku Agyeman was settled on by Mr. Mahama.

Daily Post, a pro Mahama paper, had described the former National Organizer as anti-John Mahama following his public support for Dr. Duffour to lead the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 elections.

But Wofa Yaw, as he is often called, retorted, “We shall not be intimidated by such publications. It is a democratic party and we all have the right to support whoever we deem fit.”

“Even Rawlings who founded the NDC is no more, his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has also parted ways with this party. These things must stop. I would not be intimidated by such publications,” he thundered.
