NDC refers Odododiodio Parliamentary Primary disturbances to Special Committee

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has referred the violence that occurred at its Greater Accra Regional Office during the vetting of aspirants for the Odododiodio Constituency parliamentary primary of the party to a Special Committee to investigate and make appropriate recommendations.

The incident took place on Friday, October 13, 2023, and led to the manhandling of a Citi FM/TV journalist, Akosua Otchere.

The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC discussed the matter at its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, and referred the violence that occurred and an appeal process that has been filed in respect of the eligibility of one of the aspirants to a Special Committee to investigate and make appropriate recommendations.

The Special Committee comprises of;

  1. Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho- Former Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana
  2. Dr. Samuel Sarpong- National Vice Chairman, NDC
  3. Mr. George Loh- Deputy, Director Legal, NDC
  4. Obuobia Darko-Opoku- Deputy Director of Communications, NDC
  5. Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu- MP for Wa West Constituency

All processes relative to the party’s parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency have hence been put on hold pending the outcome of investigations by the Special Committee.

NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, announced FEC’s decision in a signed statement.

The violence has been widely condemned and many are hoping that the Special Committee will be able to investigate the matter thoroughly and make appropriate recommendations.

The NDC condemned the incident and rendered an unreserved apology to the journalist and her station.
