The Regional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savannah Region has condemned the destruction of party signboards in Bole by alleged party supporters.
They were protesting the non-appointment of their preferred candidates as ministers of state.
In a statement signed by the Regional Secretary, Salisu Be-Awuribe, the party described the acts as “barbaric and anti-party conduct” and distanced itself from the actions of the group.
The statement emphasized that such behaviour is unacceptable and contrary to the principles of the NDC.
“We condemn in no uncertain terms such barbaric and anti-party conduct and shall subject any party member who engages in such unlawful acts to the requisite party disciplinary procedures,” the statement read.
The party also called on the police to swiftly investigate the incident and prosecute those involved to deter others from engaging in similar behaviour in the future.
“We direct the Police Command to fearlessly investigate and prosecute all persons directly or remotely connected to the unlawful acts of the said group of persons. This will serve as a deterrent for others who may be contemplating or harbouring such dastardly acts in the future,” the statement added.
The NDC urged its members and the general public to remain calm and assured them of President Mahama’s commitment to selecting a competent team to steer the country forward.
“We entreat all party faithful and the people of Ghana to remain calm and to trust in the ability of the competent President Mahama to select a team of persons he believes are better placed to help him reset the country,” Be-Awuribe stated.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and unity, assuring members that any internal grievances must be resolved through appropriate channels.
The incident in Bole comes as tensions rise within party ranks following appointments by President Mahama. The NDC leadership, however, is determined to maintain order and ensure that any acts of indiscipline are addressed swiftly.
Reports indicate that the vandalism involved a group of individuals alleged to be NDC supporters, who destroyed party signboards across Bole.
The acts are said to have been fueled by dissatisfaction over ministerial appointments because the MP for Bole Alhaji Yusif Sulemana has not been appointed to a position in government.
