A new survey conducted by the Centre for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI), UK, and Outcomes International, Ghana, has projected Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to secure a landslide victory in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2023.
The survey, carried out from October 10th to 20th, 2023, surveyed 9,300 polling station executives across all 16 regions.
According to the findings, Vice President Bawumia is anticipated to garner an impressive 80.8% of the total votes.
His closest competitor, Assin Central MP Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, is trailing far behind with 10.4%, while Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto secured 1.1%, and Hon. Francis Addai-Nimoh received 0.4%.
Notably, 7.3% of the delegates remain undecided.
The respondents cited the candidates’ visions for the party and the country, as well as their competency and personal qualities, as crucial factors influencing their choices.
A staggering 92.7% of the delegates have already decided which aspirant they will vote for, underlining the firm support for Vice President Bawumia within the party.
Interestingly, a previous survey conducted by the same group before the Super Delegates’ conference in August had predicted Vice President Bawumia to secure 72.6% of the votes.
However, he managed to win 16 out of 17 polling centers, claiming 67.10% of the total votes cast.
Kennedy Agyapong surprised many by amassing 14.15% of the votes, overtaking former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, who secured 10.85%. Former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, came fourth with 4.01%.
As the NPP primary on November 4 approaches, these surveys indicate a strong likelihood of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia securing the party’s flagbearer position for the 2024 elections, replicating his previous success in the August Super Delegates’ conference.
