The Minister of Local Government And Decentralization, Dan Botwe has cut sod for the construction of a State-of-the-art Market complex for the people of Nkoranza South Municipality.
The Minister, also the Member of Parliament for the Okere Constituency cut the sod on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
The Minister in his address, emphasized government commitment to making the project come to light within the shortest possible time.
He reiterated that funds are fully secured from the World Bank and by the close of July next year, the project would be ready for commissioning.
The Paramount Chief, Nana Kwame Baffoe IV, on behalf of his subordinates expressed his gratitude to government for the project and assured Hon. Dan Botwe of his subjects preparedness to support the construction of the market.
The Nkoranza South Municipal State-of -the -art Market facility is one of the 35 Secondary City project funded by a loan facility from the World Bank.
Nkoranza is the second city within the Bono East Region to benefit this World Bank project.
Together with the Minister were, his deputy Hon. Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah MP for Techiman South, main and Deputy Directors of the ministry, consultants (AESL) and Contractor of the project A4 Construction Limited.
Also at the colourful ceremony was the Paramount Chief for Nkoranza Traditional Area Nana Kwame Baffoe IV, sub Chiefs and Queen Mothers of the traditional area
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were, the MCE Hon. Daniel Owiredu, Constituency Executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party, headed by Hon. Clement Owusu Agyei, Former MP Nkoranza South Hon. Ampofo Twumasi, Former Bono East Regional Chairman, Hon. Toma, Hon. Assembly members of the Nkoranza Municipal Assembly, Various political and departmental heads, the clergy and Hon. Harriet Oppong Kyeremanteng, aide to the Chief Of Staff who has played a pivotal role to make this project a reality.
Facilities within the market project are; 2- storey 50 units lockable stores; 100 units market stores, 4 unit market hostels, 20 seater WC toilet facility and 10 bath rooms.
Construction of sanitation office and revenue office, drilling and mechanised boreholes, fire hydrant and rehabilitation of existing market facilities.
Phase two of the project will see the construction of 2- storey 50 units’ stores comprising 47 lockable stores, Police post, Health Post, 6 seater WC toilet and drilling and mechanised boreholes construction of 100 unit stalls and construction of 2 uint creche with office.
Phase three will have bitumen surfacing of 1.2 km of roads with drains and 1.2 km walkways, Bus stops, procurement of 20 waste bins and planting of street ornamental trees along the road.
The others asre pavement of 164,910 meter square waiting lounge, installation of 30 security lights, 2No. Bus terminals, Construction of drainage systems and land scapping.
After completion, this ultra modern market project would help boost commercial activities of the Municipality.
