NPP: Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai MP fights Constituency chairman over verification album committee

The Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai has petitioned the National Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on alleged illegalities being perpetrated by the Constituency Chairman and Secretary.

The MP warned if the two are not called to order, their actions can potentially inflame the already polarised Constituency into something else.

He disclosed that in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai constituency, the Constituency Chairman has deliberately refused to allow the Chairman of the Council of Elders, Mr. Ofori Asuming to chair the constituency album contrary to a directive from the party.

He said, “Your letter of 3rd day of May 2023 entitled ‘verification of constituency albums’ with reference number NPP/HQ/2023/05/02/A/V was unambiguous about the composition of the constituency verification committee and the Chairperson of the committee. The six-member committee is to be chaired by the Chairperson of the Council of Elders of every constituency.”

“In Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai constituency, the Chairman has deliberately refused
to allow the Chairman of the Council of Elders, Mr. Ofori Asuming to chair the constituency album verification committee in flagrant disregard of the directives governing the verification of the
the album as stipulated in your letter.”

“Again he failed to call a Constituency Executive Committee Meeting to discuss the directives governing the verification of the album and refer same to the Committee.”

The Chairman and the Constituency Secretary, he said, have decided to go about the verification processes in a manner that will help them achieve their personal interest of filling in the gaps and replacing those perceived to be supporters of the MP.

“To them this is the surest means of unseating the Member of Parliament during the incoming parliamentary primaries,” he said.

The petition stressed the continued disregard of the laid down procedures by the Chairman is an abuse of office and must be warned to refrain from it.
