The campaign of vociferous MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, for the flagbearership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has received a major endorsement from the Ashanti Region.
180 groups in the avowed electoral World Bank of the ruling party have thrown their support behind his candidature and vowed to launch a ‘Nipakyer Festival’ synonymous with the antelope hunting ‘Aboakyer Festival’ to hunt for voters for his campaign.
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is said to have overtaken long-time flagbearer aspirant Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen in the NPP flagbearer race and gradually closing the gap on the front-runner Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
Since announcing his intention to contest for the position, the Assin Central MP has met various groups and stakeholders within the NPP and the country at large to elaborate on his decision to contest and why he is the best candidate to help the party to break the 8.
His efforts are already bearing fruits with these groups recognizing him as the best person to lead the NPP in the 2024 elections.
His candidature received a major boost on Wednesday 31st August, 2021 when a group calling itself Concerned Supporters of New Patriotic Party called on the Assin Central MP to contest the flagbearership of the party when nominations open.
According to the group, Ken Agyapong is the only senior NPP member that speaks for the grassroots and expressed their staunch support for his ambitions to lead the party.
“We believe Kennedy Agyapong can turn the electoral fortunes of the NPP in 2024 and also turn around the economic fortunes of the country. He is a man for the grassroots and we have come to accept the fact that his candidature is the surest bet for the country ” Convenor for the group Ohemeng Ian Moore stated.
He argued that Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has proven himself as a disciplinarian who will not hesitate to crack the whip even against members of his own government when given the nod adding, “This trait is what the NPP and the country have been missing in her leadership.”
Another group, Patriotic Voices also issued a statement declaring the legislator as someone who ought to be celebrated for the many opportunities he has created for the larger number of Ghanaians through his political and entrepreneurship exploits.
According to the group, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is a person with the love of Ghana at heart.
As the race for the NPP candidature heats up, more groups across all the 16 regions will boldly declare their support for the MP when the formal campaign begins.
However, it appears no one will wish to be left out of the party and as the 180 groups in the Ashanti Region take the lead to declare their support, the coming days will witness more groups declaring their support for the candidature of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.
