NPP Nasara Wing slams Sam George for religious bigotry, demands retraction and apology

The Nasara Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned alleged religious bigotry by Hon. Sam George, warning it will not allow the Ningo-Prampram MP to destroy the country for selfish political gains.

According to the wing, the MP is widely known to be reckless in many respects and still be forgiven but cautioned he cannot be forgiven when he extends his recklessness to matters of religion and faith.

The warning stems from comments made by Sam George during an appearance on Metro TV on Tuesday, 7th November 2023, where he criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and flag bearer of the NPP, for his visits to churches.

He branded the Vice President as a ‘religious prostitute.’

The NPP, in its statement, expressed disbelief and shock at Sam George’s comments, describing them as terrible, incendiary and reckless, especially coming from a Member of Parliament.

The party expressed concerns of the potential danger such religious bigotry poses to the peace and stability of Ghana, a nation that has long been regarded as a symbol of religious tolerance in Africa.

“We are a one Ghana, a one people, and a one nation united by common destiny,” stated the National Nasara Coordinator, Abdul Aziz Futa.

“It is this age-long practice of ours that has allowed Muslims, including ‘Muslim politicians,’ to accept invitations to worship in churches.”

The statement questioned Sam George’s assertions whether he implies that respected figures like the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osumanu Shaributu, are also engaging in similar practices of being ‘Muslim by day and Christian by night’ by visiting churches.

The Nasara Wing challenged Sam George’s authority to dictate how Muslims practice their faith, questioning his knowledge of Islam.

Abdul Aziz Futa urged all right-thinking members of society, especially CSOs, the Parliament of Ghana, religious bodies, and traditional leaders to condemn Sam George’s alleged recklessness.

He demanded a retraction of the inflammatory comments and an unconditional apology for what he said is a disservice to the motherland.
