The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has outlined key protocols for the upcoming Parliamentary Primaries scheduled for Saturday, 27th January, 2024.
According to the party, no Government appointee or party official, from constituencies to the National level, will be allowed to interfere.
General Secretary of the NPP, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong, disclosed this at a press briefing on Monday, 22nd January, 2024, in Kumasi.
He entrusted the Ghana Police with handling security matters, explicitly excluding any involvement of “bodybuilders,” commonly known as Machomen, at voting premises.
The protocols also introduced a comprehensive set of guidelines, including the prohibition of camping for delegates, taking pictures during voting, wearing candidate T-shirts, or engaging in campaigning on the election day.
Justin Kodua stressed the importance of delegates bringing their identification cards, stressing that only those cleared would be permitted to vote.
Addressing concerns about potential proxy voting, the General Secretary affirmed that no Proxy voting will be allowed in Saturday’s Parliamentary Primaries.
In a significant announcement, the NPP scribe confirmed the participation of Nhyiaeso delegates in Saturday’s Parliamentary Primaries.
He revealed that Hon. Kennedy Kwasi Kankam, the former Member of Parliament for the area and current Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong, had been cleared to contest in the primaries.
Justin Kodua sternly warned against the public display of ballots, stating the Ghana Police will take criminal action on those who take pictures of their ballots.
He assured that the NPP is committed to ensuring transparency and fairness in the democratic process, urging all aspirants and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the outlined protocols.
The voting process would commence at 7:00 am and conclude at 2:00 pm nationwide.
