In a surprising revelation, the spokesperson for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, Ebo Buckman, has claimed that the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) harbored dislike towards the former Trade and Industry Minister since 2008.
According to him, the NPP’s aversion to Kyerematen was evident when, after the 2008 primaries, an announcement was made on national television falsely stating that Kyerematen had left Ghana when he was actually in the country.
Buckman stated, “One particular issue that came up and really shook my heart was the one that happened in 2008. After Alan Kyerematen conceded defeat to Akufo-Addo, he was in his office. An announcement was made on TV that he had traveled out of Ghana, and it surprised him because he was right in Ghana at the time. The MC for the program announced that Alan was not in Ghana when he was in Ghana. The announcement during the campaign launch of the party that he was not in Ghana when he was in Ghana meant the party did not want him.”
Moreover, Buckman alleged that his own disqualification from running for Member of Parliament under the NPP’s banner in 2007 was a result of his strong support for Kyerematen during the presidential primaries.
“I was supporting Alan during the 2007 primaries and also vying to become an MP, and the party disqualified me. The letter confirming my disqualification stated vague reasons that could not be stated explicitly, and it is suspected that my support for Alan during the primaries was the cause,” he revealed.
This revelation comes on the heels of Alan Kyerematen’s surprising decision to resign from the NPP on Monday, September 25.
Kyerematen has founded the Movement for Change and intends to contest the 2024 elections as an independent candidate, marking a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape.
