The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has convened an urgent meeting to address a petition submitted by nine of the party’s presidential aspirants ahead of the upcoming primaries.
The petitioners are demanding a centralized system of voting for the special delegates conference scheduled for August 26th.
Their concerns revolve around the current plan to restrict voting to only 900 delegates at the regional level.
Sources indicate that all nine aspirants or their representatives are present at the meeting, awaiting a final decision on the matter.
The outcome will determine the voting approach for the special delegates conference and also finalize the list of presidential aspirants, reducing it from 10 to 5 as required by the party’s constitution.
Leading up to the special delegates’ congress, the NPP had announced its intention to compile a new register to incorporate changes in the delegate list, including the unfortunate passing of some delegates, necessitating an updated register.
