NPP’s Patrick Boakye Yiadom declared winner of Obuasi East after re-collation

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Patrick Boakye Yiadom, has been declared the winner of the parliamentary seat following the re-collation on Saturday, December 21.

Mr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom received 18,558 votes, narrowly defeating his closest contender from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Aboagye, who garnered 18,549 votes. Independent candidate Adjei Owusu secured 424 votes.

This declaration comes after the High Court directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate and declare the results for several constituencies, including Ablekuma North and Nsawam-Adoagyiri, despite previous results having been announced.

Aggrieved parliamentary candidates from both the NDC and NPP had filed a writ seeking to compel the EC to conduct fresh elections in these constituencies, citing anomalies in the collation process and the declaration of winners.

Presiding Judge Joseph Adu Owusu Agyeman, in his ruling on Friday, December 20, ordered the EC to proceed with the re-collation of results in the Ablekuma North constituency. This ruling was made despite objections from NDC legal representatives, led by Godwin Edudzi Tameklo.

Similarly, objections raised by Gary Nimako, lead counsel for Frank Annoh-Dompreh of the NPP, were also overruled.

Both lawyers had argued that the results of these constituencies had already been declared. However, the court determined that irregularities in the process justified the re-collation.
