OB Amoah refutes media reports on primaries

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem South Constituency, Mr. Osei Bonsu (OB) Amoah, has strongly refuted recent media reports suggesting a reversal in his decision to contest in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.

In a statement, Mr. OB Amoah clarified various misconceptions, describing them as baseless allegations against him.

“I have not made any u-turn regarding my decision in the Parliamentary primaries. I picked my nomination forms and duly filed them within the stipulated deadline,” the Akuapem South MP who is also the Minister of State at the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development reiterated.

He emphasized that his commitment to serving the people of Akuapem South remains unwavering.

Responding to claims that his candidacy is impeding the Municipal Chief Executive’s ambitions, Mr. OB Amoah dismissed the notion.

“The allegations that my decision is depriving the Municipal Chief Executive of his ambition to be a candidate are unfounded. I am simply exercising my democratic right to contest,” he emphasised.

Setting the record straight, Mr. O. B Amoah also clarified the role of Mr. Eric Apeadu in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his ambition to become the Parliamentary candidate of the governing party for Akuapem South in the 2024 general election.

He dismissed claims that Apeadu is his Special Aide, Chronicling Apeadu’s contributions to the NPP over the years.

“It is claimed that my decision to file my nomination is depriving the Municipal Chief Executive of his ambition to be a candidate and to help Mr. Eric Apeadu, my so-called Special Aide, to be our candidate.

“Mr. Eric Apeadu is not my Special Aide. For the record, he was the Research Assistant in my office in Parliament from 2017-2020.

“He is a former Assembly Member for Aburi North Electoral Area, former Youth Organizer and former Secretary of the Party in the Akuapem South Constituency.

“He recently vied for the Chairmanship of the Constituency Party and lost narrowly.

“He is an active, committed, young politician who is an asset to the party.

“He has shown exceptional ability and courage in assisting our Party to be formidable in nearly four terms of our total dominance in the Aburi/Nsawam and Akuapem South Constituencies”, Mr. OB Amoah further explained various roles played by Mr. Apeadu in Akuapem South.

He said the “two other aspirants are a patron and a member of the Council of Elders in the Constituency who contested me in the 2020 primaries and lost.

The patron and member of Council of Elders of our Party are key persons in the running of our constituency It is their right to contest again to be parliamentary candidate for the NPP.

“Will my decision to contest the seat again make any person go unopposed? Are people so desperate to use every means to hold office?”

Mr. O. B. Amoah said the baseless planted allegations against him are harmful to the Party.

“The spurious attacks against me, including failed demonstrations, outright insults as well as defamatory comments regularly which have been engineered by cowards and conspirators for years will not deter me from pursuing the agenda of delivering the seat for the NPP for the fifth straight time.

“It is obvious that the agenda has been deliberately designed to undermine my credibility and integrity in recent years, as was patently demonstrated during my campaign for our Presidential Candidate, Dr. Bawumia in November 2023.

“The claim that a win for DMB in the Presidential primaries will make OB go unopposed has been discredited.

“The message that 16 years of victimization and intimidation is enough,” is for the delegates to decide.

“The baseless claims will not deter me from helping the Party to keep the Akuapem South seat and securing a massive victory for Dr. Bawumia,” Mr. O. B. Amoah emphasised.

The Akuapem South MP wished all party faithful a Happy New Year, adding “May 2024 be the year of possibilities. IT IS POSSIBLE”.
