Over three thousand (3,000) candidates are siting for the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Okaikoi North Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.
The figure, 3,067 comprise final year Junior High School Students from ten schools in the Municipality.
Out of the number one candidate is reported dead with seven absentees.
These are St. Charles Lwanga R/C Compound, Fadama Cluster of Schools, Achimota Compound A, Anunmle JHS and Achimota Compound B.
The rest are Pentecostal Centre, Achimota Compound C, St. K. Michael School, Tesano JHS and Achimota Basic.
Briefing journalists after a tour of the examination centres yesterday, Francis K. Asiedu the Okaikoi North Municipal Coordinating Director said he is optimistic the students would excel in their exams.
He stated that the candidates are composed and have no cause to doubt the preparedness of the candidates to face the brighter future that lies ahead of them.
Mr. Asiedu explained that through the exams, some of the candidates would progress to the various Senior High Schools, Technical Schools and Vocational Training Institutes, all in an effort to pursue a brighter future for themselves.
While wishing the students well in the exams, the Okaikoi North Municipal Coordinating Director said he is enthused with the preparation and the smooth take-off of the exams across the Municipality.
Mr. Asiedu was on the tour with Mrs. Cynthia Aboni, the Municipal Education Director, the Information Officer, Joana A. Tagoe and other members of the Assembly.
The tour is part of measures to assess the progress of the examination which enters its third day today.
