Okuapeman has no Chief – Okuapehemaa insists

The Okuapehemaa, Her Royal Highness Nana Afua Nketiaa Obuo II, has described as a pretender and a self-styled chief, one Kwadwo Kesse Antwi, a claimant to the Ofori Stool of Akropong Akuapim.

She indicated that her attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media and other media platforms from last month showing Kwadwo Kesse celebrating his birthday at the Okuapehene’s Palace.

She noted that the Krontihemaa, Nana Oye II during the event claimed she was clothed in the capacity and authority of the Patron of the Queen Mother’s Association of Akuapim (the Okuapehemaa) in donating a birthday gift of kente cloths and other items to the pretender to the Ofori Stool.

“For the records, on March 17th, 2021, a Koforidua High Court presided over by Justice Mrs. Doris Dabanka Bekoe found Kwadwo Kesse Antwi and Madam Lily Agyemang, an Obaapanyin of the Sakyiabea Royal family of Akropong Akuapim guilty of contempt of court for disobeying the order of the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.”

“The Court ruled that the nomination, selection and installation of the next occupant of the Ofori Stool of Akropong Akuapim be done afresh,” she stated.

The two received a fine of GH¢10,000 each or in default serve 14 days imprisonment, which they settled on the 24th March, 2021.

The Okaupehemaa subsequently, through her lawyer, Mr. Kwaku Ansa Asare of Hencil Chambers Accra wrote to Kwadwo Kesse Antwi to vacate the palace since he has ceased to be a chief.

Kwadwo Kesse Antwi has, however, disobeyed the High Court judgment and the order of the Queenmother to date and is currently occupying the palace illegally.
