The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) in the Greater Accra Region has donated assorted items worth hundreds of Cedis to the Ga Traditional Palaces in the Municipality.
The donation is part of the government’s efforts to assist with the celebration of this year’s Homowo Festival.
This is not the first time the Assembly is donating to the Chiefs in the Municipality since its inception in 2018.
This year’s donation is yet another conscious attempt by the Assembly to strengthen the relationship between it and the Chiefs.
In handing over the items, the Municipal Chief Executive. Boye Laryea said the donation of the items is not new although it is the Assembly’s widows might towards the celebration of the festival.
He said the donation is to support the celebration of the impending Homowo Festival.
Receiving the items, Nii Nmai Akwetey Brenya III, the Akweteyman Chief thanked the MCE for the gesture indicating that the Assembly had always assisted the Palace during such times.

For his part Nii Ayibonte Adams II Chief of Achimota in a separate donation expressed similar sentiments.
He said Mr. Laryea has a good personal relationship with the Palace indicating that the Palace is grateful to the Assembly for the donation.
Speaking to journalists after the presentation, Mr. Laryea urged the Gas in the Municipality to celebrate the festival with the strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols.
He noted that the celebration should not be without caution as though there is no corona virus around.
The MCE explained that the nature of public events the world over have changed and that the 2021 celebration of Homowo should not be an exception.
The items donated include bags of maize, palm-nuts, bottles of water, alcoholic drinks, beverages, gallons of palm oil, bottles of schnapps and an undisclosed amount of money.
