Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Chairman of the five-member committee for Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), has reassured Ghanaians that the team will not duplicate the work of existing state anti-corruption agencies.
The ORAL team, includes prominent figures such as former Auditor-General Daniel Domelovo, retired Commissioner of Police Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, and investigative journalist Raymond Archer.
This initiative forms part of President-elect John Mahama’s broader strategy to enforce strict accountability measures and restore public trust in the public sector.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Wednesday, Ablakwa stressed that the ORAL team is a preparatory body focused on coordinating and gathering evidence to support the recovery of looted state resources, ensuring it complements, rather than duplicates, the work of other anti-corruption bodies.
“This team will not duplicate the efforts of any state institutions. This is just a preparatory team we are coordinating we are gathering the evidence and we will work with these institutions…This team is part of a transitional arrangement stepping in because there are all kinds of things already people are trying to regularize the loot, and people are trying to abscond with them.
“So this helps us during this transitional period to at least salvage what can be salvaged and also stop the haemorrhage and gather as much evidence as possible now that people are willing to engage with the new administration.
“I can assure you that all the existing institutions are at some point we will work with them, we will collaborate with them and they will take over…So this is not a team to duplicate,” Ablakwa stated.
