Oppong Nkrumah urges Citi FM to report assault on reporter to police

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister for Information, has called on Citi FM to file a formal complaint with the police and the National Media Commission (NMC) regarding the assault on its reporter, Akosua Otchere, by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Odododiodio constituency.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 13, 2023, during the NDC’s vetting of its Parliamentary aspirants.

Akosua Otchere, who was covering the event, fell victim to violence when clashes erupted, leading to her assault.

The Ministry of Information, in a statement on Monday signed by Oppong Nkrumah, condemned any form of harassment, intimidation, or attack against journalists or media organizations, emphasizing that journalism is not a crime.

“The Ministry condemns in no uncertain terms the subjecting of Journalists or Media houses to any form of harassment, intimidation, or attack simply for doing their work. Journalism is not a crime.

“The Ministry has urged the station to formally report the incident to both the Ghana Police Service and the NMC for appropriate action to be taken against the perpetrators,” the statement said.
