Parliament begins registration for elected members of 9th Parliament

Parliament has announced the commencement of the registration process for members elected to the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic.

The registration exercise is set to begin with an online phase on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, followed by physical registration starting Thursday, January 2, 2025.

In a statement issued by Camillo Pwamang, Deputy Coordinator of the Dissolution/Inauguration Committee and Deputy Clerk to Parliament, members-elect are urged to follow the outlined procedures for a smooth transition into the new Parliament.

According to the statement, the online registration phase begins on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, and that targeted invitations containing registration details will be sent to members-elect via WhatsApp or email.

Members requiring clarification or assistance and encouraged to contact officers in charge of the registration exercise at 055 022 2200 or 050 363 4466.

The physical registration will run from Thursday, January 2, 2025, to Monday, January 6, 2025, at the premises of Parliament.

Parliament has also released the schedule for the dissolution of the 8th Parliament and the inauguration of the 9th Parliament.

Election of Speaker and Swearing-in:

Date: Monday, January 6, 2025

Time: Members are to be seated by 9 p.m.; the election of the Speaker begins at 11 p.m., followed by the swearing-in at midnight.

Swearing-in of President-elect and Vice President-elect:

Date: Tuesday, January 7, 2025

Venue: Independence Square, Accra

Time: The ceremony starts at 10 a.m., with Members of Parliament to be seated by 9 a.m.

Parliament has arranged buses to transport members from the Parliament premises to Independence Square at 8 a.m. prompt on January 7.

Mr. Pwamang emphasized the need for punctuality and preparedness and called on all members to adhere strictly to these timelines to ensure a smooth and dignified inauguration process.
