Parliament delegation attends late La Mantse’s funeral

A delegation from Parliament on Thursday 17th March, 2022 visited the La Palace to mourn with the chiefs and people of the Traditional Area at the funeral of the late Nii Dr. Kpobi Tettey-Tsuru III, La Mantse and Paramount Chief of the La Traditional Area.

Led by the 1st Deputy Speaker, Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu, the delegation offered condolences of the House to the Royal Family, the chiefs and the entire La people.

MP for the area, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, made the formal introduction of members of the delegation to the royal family and vice versa.

The delegation also presented assorted drinks and an amount of GH¢20,000 as Parliament’s contribution to the funeral of the late Chief.

The funeral of the late La Mantse has commenced in earnest and will culminate in his burial at the La Royal Cemetery on Friday, 18th March, 2022.

Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye who presented the items on behalf of the delegation indicated Parliament recognizes the funeral is that of a great person hence there is a need to be properly represented to mourn and bid him a befitting farewell.

“So our presence here is a representation of Parliament of Ghana; the Speaker, the Deputy Speakers, the Members of Parliament, members of the Parliamentary Service Board and the staff,” he said.

He informed the Royal family the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin, will personally visit and pay his respect as he is currently unavailable.

According to him, the Speaker has had a very cordial relationship with the late Mantse and considered him a personal and dear friend.

The late Nii Dr. Kpobi Tettey-Tsuru III celebrated the 2018 Homowo Festival of the La people as his 30th anniversary celebration of enstoolment.

Just after the 30th anniversary celebration, Nii complained of ill-health, which deteriorated and on 3rd February, 2019, was admitted at the 37 Military Hospital until the morning of 4th February, 2019 when he passed to glory.

The late Nii Dr. Kpobi Tettey-Tsuru III ascended the La Stool as one of the Paramount Chiefs of the Ga State on 30th April, 1988 and had since been a member of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

The delegation led by Deputy Speaker Joe Wise also included MPs for Ablekuma South, Okoe Vanderpuye; Ablekuma North, Shiela Bartels; Ablekuma Central, Ebenezer Nii Narh Nartey; Domeabra-Obom, Sophia Karen Edem Akuako; Odododiodioo, Nii Lante Vanderpuye; Korle Klottey, Zanetor Agyman-Rawlings and several others.
