Parliament will set up a special bi-partisan Ad-Hoc Committee to investigate procurement contracts between the Government and Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum and one other for the supply of Sputnik-V COVID-19 Vaccines.
This follows the adoption of a Private Members Motion tabled members of the Minority lead by Haruna Iddrisu, the Minority leader.
The Committee, which is yet to be determined is expected to report o the House on Friday, July 9, 2021.
The Motion was filed by seven Members of the Minority side who indicated the need for a Parliamentary probe into the agreement.
The pricing and policy inconsistencies concerning the procurement of the vaccines need to be established.
The Motion was in the name of the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu; the Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak; Ranking Member on the Health Committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; and Member of Parliament for Daffiama/Bussie/Issa, Sebastian Ngemenso Sandaare.
The rest are the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane; and Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey.
Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, who moved the Motion on behalf of the group invoked the power of inquiry and investigation of Parliament according to Article 103 of the 1992 constitution.
Members of the Majority side, contrary to expectations, did not contest the motion but gave their support to the bi-partisan probe
Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, pledged support for the motion and indicated that the exercise of the oversight responsibility of Parliament is at the heart of the motion.
