The Okyeman Environmental Protection Brigade has revealed that land guards working for an estate developer in Adoagyiri and Okanta have planned a reprisal attack against its members.
This plot was intercepted through a voice recording on a WhatsApp platform.
At a media briefing in Kyebi over the weekend, Okyeman Akwansrahene Baffour Asiedu Bekoe stated that the land guards, posing as police informants, are part of a syndicate terrorizing farmers and landowners in Okanta and surrounding areas.
Baffour Asiedu Bekoe explained that the brigade received reports of these land guards terrorizing residents and subsequently arrested them, handing them over to the police in Kyebi.
However, the police released the suspects after 48 hours, after which the land guards allegedly planned to attack members of the brigade.
The Okyeman Akwansrahene said the land guards circulated pictures of leaders of the Brigade on a WhatsApp platform inciting their members to go after them.
Baffour Asiedu Bekoe says the plot to attack them has been reported to the police pending investigation.
This development coincides with the killing of 28-year-old Ofei Noah some two months ago who was a member of the Brigade.
Noah was killed while three members of the brigade suffered multiple gunshot wounds while returning from their usual patrol around Adeiso. They were ambushed in a nearby village.
Ofei Noah was buried over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Baffour Asiedu Bekoe indicates that the Environmental Protection Brigade will not be deterred by these threats to shun their responsibility of protecting the property of Okyeman.
He stated that all the lands spanning from Adoagyiri to Jejeti, Dome Faase Asamankese, Adeiso and its enclave remain the property of the Over Lord of Akyem Abuakwa State, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin who is the allodial title holder.
“Consequently, all allocations of land without the consent and concurrence of the Okyenhene are void.
He advised all parties who have acquired lands from third parties to come to the Okyeman Stool land Secretariat at Kyebi to rectify their documents or have themselves to blame.
Baffour Asiedu Bekoe called on the security agencies to help them stop the landguard menace in the area.
The Okyeman Environmental Protection Brigade, he said, was established to protect Okyeman’s property and they will stop at nothing doing so.
