Police dig up body of woman murdered by son in GH¢500 dispute

The police have exhumed the body of Mercy Oforiwa, a 60-year-old retired worker of the Ghana Highway Authority killed in a money dispute.

She was allegedly murdered by her son, Gideon Asomani, at Kyekyewere near Nyamekrom in the Eastern Region.

Asomani was arrested for stealing iron rods but admitted to killing his mother in his statement to the police.

Oforiwa had been reported missing since 17 June 2023.

The police, together with the suspect and some relatives, went to the crime scene to confirm the location of the burial and to exhume the body for further investigation.

The exhumation took place on Wednesday 13 December.

The body, which was in a state of decomposition, has been taken to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for autopsy and preservation.

The suspect claimed that he pushed his mother during a quarrel over GH¢500 and she hit her head on the wall and died.
