The police have released almost all of the protestors arrested on Thursday, September 21 for trying to march to the Jubilee House, according to Prince Elikplim Ganaku, the lawyer representing them.
The demonstrators were apprehended by the police at the 37 bus terminal, where they had gathered for the protest on Thursday morning.
The police claimed that they had delivered an application to halt the demonstration to the organizers, Democracy Hub and Atuguba & Associates, as early as Tuesday, September 19.
However, the organizers refused to cancel the march.
The police arrested 49 of the protesters and transferred them to various prisons in Accra.
Nonetheless, in a statement on Ghana Tonight on TV3 late Thursday, Prince Elikplim Ganaku confirmed that all of the protestors had been released.
He said they were released under “quite generous” conditions.
“As far as I know, they should have all been released by now,” he told host Alfred Ocansey.
He disputed the police number, confirming that about 56 of the protesters were arrested.
Meanwhile, the protesters have served notice to protest again on Friday, going by the original plan of picketing at the seat of government for three days.
