Police warn prophets

The Ghana Police Service has issued a reminder to the general public, especially the religious community, regarding the law on the publication of false news.

A statement by the police emphasized the importance of compliance with this regulation.

“We appreciate the cooperation of faith-based groups and individuals in adhering to the law, particularly in the communication of prophecies. This has not only protected the rights of those affected by such prophecies but has also contributed to a society free of unnecessary panic, fear, and alarm,” the statement said.

Acknowledging the significance of practicing faith within legal boundaries, the Ghana Police Service urged citizens to remain patriotic and continue abiding by the law.

The aim is to uphold the existing state of law, order, and security in the country.

“While we recognize the constitutional rights to practice faith and freedom of speech, it is crucial to emphasize that these rights must be exercised with respect for the rights and freedoms of others and in the interest of the public,” the statement added.

December 27th is now designated as Prophecy Communication Compliance Day, and the police encourage religious communities to align their practices with legal frameworks.
