The Head of Public Events and Communication for Charterhouse Productions Limited, Mr Robert Klah says the work of a public relations person transcends the title.
He said in Public Relations Practice, Communication was vital to stakeholders in that space.
“PR is also the management and dissemination of information either written or unwritten” Mr. Klah disclosed.
According to him, PR is not the knowledge stored in the head nor is it the title we carry but rather a practice.
Speaking at a lecture with students of the African University College of Communications (AUCC) is Accra, Mr. Klah stated that in PR stakeholders are wide and varied people; adding that whatever information that is shared impacts people differently.
He said to excel as a PR practitioner, a person requires certification, experience, knowledge, skill and character.
Mr. Klah opined that to gain experience there must be the opportunity to constantly practice the knowledge acquired academically.
“Once you practice you build your experience, nobody is willing to hire anybody who has git any knowledge in their heads without translating it into some form of experience” the Charterhouse Head of Public Events and Communication argued.
Again, he noted that a good PR must be knowledgeable in his space and the industry one operates.
A PR must have good interpersonal skills and must be able to relate with everyone, Charterhouse Communication said.
