Alfred Asiedu Adjei elected NALAG new President     

Mr Alfred Asiedu Adjei, the Presiding Member of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly has been elected as the President National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) at the  22nd Biennial National Delegates Conference held in Sunyani

He was elected by a popular acclamation at the conference held at the Sunyani Technical University auditorium which brought together representatives and delegates from all the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Mr Adjei and the other newly elected executives, at the conference held on the theme “empowering local governance: a new dawn for electoral area development,” would steer the affairs of the Association for three years.

The other new executives include Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong the first Vice President (unopposed), Ms Philomina Opoku-Asare, Treasurer (unopposed), and Ms. Helena Mensah, National Women’s Caucus (unopposed).

Mr Daniel Kwaku Mensah, secured 438 votes to become the Second Vice President, beating his only challenger, Mr Michael Ahwireng who had 94 votes in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission.

Nana Samuel Essel-Bediako and Ms Gertrude Adzo Borklo were also elected as Trustees of the Association.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Adjei expressed appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work hard to achieve his vision of improving the general welfare of the Assembly members (AMs) in the country.

He said capacity building of the AMs was also essential to deepening the local government systems and structures and assured that the executives would also work in that regard and tackle emerging challenges at the MMDAs proactively to push the development of the local communities.
