The principal of TUCEE Institute of Counselling and Technology, Dr. Cecelia Tutu Danquah, has expressed pride in the institute’s growth from its humble beginnings to a registered institution producing thousands of counsellors.
TUCEE started a decade ago as a monthly program for women, “Women Counselling Women,” but has transformed into a major institute training program that has graduated hundreds of counsellors.
Delivering a welcome address at the institute’s 10th graduation ceremony on Saturday, November 30, 2024, Dr. Tutu Danquah emphasized the institute’s mission to promote mental health and counselling through innovative approaches.
The event celebrated 411 2024 graduating fellows.
She said, “This graduation ceremony marks a significant milestone in our journey. What started as a monthly program has become an institute training thousands of counsellors to address Ghana’s mental health needs.”
She stressed the theme of the ceremony, ‘Mental Wellness and Peace-Building amidst Election 2024,’’ as a call to action for graduates to use their skills in promoting peace and mental health.
Explaining the institute’s unique approach, Dr. Tutu Danquah emphasized integrating technology into counselling practices to ensure accessibility for all.
She said, “We chose to merge counselling and technology to promote ubiquitous counselling for everyone, anywhere, at any time. Whether in your bedroom or office, you can access a counsellor,” she explained.
This approach, she said, positions TUCEE graduates to meet modern demands, bridging gaps in mental health services across Ghana.
The 411 graduates comprised: 222 fellows in Certificate in Counseling, 85 fellows in Marriage and Family Therapy, 84 fellows in Child and Adolescent Counselling, and 19 fellows in Cyber Counselling.
“You, our 10th graduating class, are unique. Together, you bring our total alumni to over 4,000 fellows—a remarkable achievement,” Dr. Tutu Danquah said, adding that each fellow represents hope for addressing diverse counselling needs in Ghana.
The principal emphasized the institute’s commitment to mental health and the importance of the graduates’ role in society and stressed that the journey as counsellors is a divine assignment to serve humanity.
Over the past 10 years, TUCEE Institute of Counselling and Technology has become a cornerstone in mental health advocacy in Ghana, producing over 4,000 counsellors.
With its unique focus on merging counselling and technology, the institute is preparing its fellows to address modern challenges with innovative solutions.
