Qatar 2022: I’m ‘too old’ for Black Stars call up – Asamoah Gyan

Asamoah Gyan has ruled out the possibility of playing for National team the Blackstars at this year’s World cup scheduled to be played in Qatar.

The former Black Stars captain and striker disclosed this on Kokroko morning show on Peace FM.

The former international who is the highest goal scorer for Ghana maintained he must earn a call-up to play for the country at the world cup based on merits.

He said, “I have to earn a call-up and not because I am the highest top scorer for the Blackstars, so I can just wake up and join camp. No, it doesn’t work like that.”

“Physically, I am not ready. I don’t think I’m fit enough to merit an invitation to the national team. I have to be in my right shape to earn it.’’

Asamoah Gyan added, “Since I have not hanged my boots from football, I think I have to earn call-up to the national team. If I have a club and performing at the highest club level then why not?”

When asked if he can replicate what Roger Milla did in the 90’s for playing for his nation at a time he was not playing any active football, the 36 year former Sunderland player answered in the affirmative and said, “Yes, I heard the story of Roger Milla when I was very young but most importantly I have to be physically fit because I am naturally gifted and can offer a lot on the pitch.”

Many Ghanaians have suggested Gyan be called to the national team to play for his side at the worl stage looking at his striking abilities.
