American rapper Robert Rihmeek Williams, better known by his stage name Meek Mill, has apologised to the people of Ghana for the music video he shot at Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s presidency, when he paid a courtesy call on President Akufo-Addo in Accra on 30 December 2022.
Meek Mill was invited to the Office of the President by Akufo-Addo and did have a meeting with the president in his office on the fourth floor of Jubilee House.
The American rapper did take videos and still pictures on his way into Jubilee House, while waiting in the official holding area and on his way out of the building.
He decided to use the visuals for a music video without seeking the consent of Jubilee House officials. The attention of the rapper was called to this unfortunate position, and he has since deleted the clip.
Meek Mill’s apology followed his decision to delete the video clip from all his social media platforms and handles. He pulled down the promo moments after the issue topped the trends on Twitter and other social media networks.
“My apologies to the people if any disrespect! We still gonna push to make the connection between black people in America and Africa … what I’m trying to do is more than a video and you should see coming soon! My apologies to the office also!” the rapper tweeted in the first of three tweets apologising for the viral video clip.
“I don’t think they knew it was video footage when we asked to shoot … it’s a small camera and one kid … in America we didn’t know this existed and was excited to show because they don’t show Ghana on our media much! So I’ll take responsibility for my mistake! Not intentional.
“I’m just not here for no separation of anything black … we already separated enough and don’t understand each other’s cultures … let’s use this to help fix that and not more judgement towards each other!” his other tweets said.
