Render your apology on TikTok – Constituency Sec. tells ‘Tiktok MP’ Adwoa Safo

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dome Kwabenya Constituency Secretary, Theophilus Ansah Larbi has urged Member of Parliament for the constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo to direct her apology to persons on social media platform, Tiktok.

Sarah Adwoa Safo, a former Minister for Gender, children and social protection, at the time the NPP needed her most in Parliament to enable the party to take major government decisions was rather posting regular videos of herself dancing and singing on Tiktok from her base in the USA.

The lawmaker has apologized to President Akufo-Addo and the leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what she described as “inappropriate conduct” on her part last year.

She returned to Parliament last November after a year of staying abroad without “permission from the Speaker.”

Speaking in a video broadcast in the local dialect (twi) on Thursday, 14 September, the Dome Kwabenya lawmaker said her actions during the period was not intentional, considering the challenges her family was facing.

“I am using this opportunity to apologise to all of you. In the not-too-distant past, some of my conduct [was not appropriate]. I want to assure you all that it was not deliberate, and it wasn’t my intention to disrespect you.”

“A lot of things were going on in my life and in the life of my family. I am asking you all, in the name of God, to forgive me …” she said.

But commenting on Adwoa Safo’s apology in an interview with Kasapa News, the NPP Dome Kwabenya Constituency Secretary, Theophilus Ansah Larbi said no constituency executive has anything against her.

‘We don’t have a problem with Hon. Adwoa Safo, nobody has accused her of anything. If she thinks she’s offended someone or the party in some way that she’s not ready to talk about but she’s apologizing for that, then that’s fine.

“She’s a tiktop MP, so if she has any apology, she should render it to people on tiktok because that’s where she was talking and making videos at the time the party needed him most in Parliament to do government business. Even upon her arrival in Ghana from the USA, she did not accord us [constituency executives] any respect. All we heard was that she was going round meeting polling station executives. We cannot stop her from contesting again as we know she wants to. We will act on what the party people in the constituency want. If delegates re-elect her, we’ll support her, if the party also elects another person, we’ll support that candidate to win the 2024 election and retain the seat.”
