Rising cost of Kenkey shows economic hardship, Ghanaians deserve better – Mahama

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for what he describes as severe economic mismanagement, resulting in undue hardship for Ghanaians.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Bodi, Western North Region, on Wednesday, November 13, Mahama pointed to the significant rise in food prices as a clear indicator of the NPP’s economic failings.

He highlighted the example of kenkey, a popular Ghanaian staple, noting that its price has surged from GH₵1 during his administration to GH₵5 under the current government.

Mahama argued that Ghanaians deserve better and should not have to endure the increasing cost of living brought on by poor economic policies. He urged voters to consider the impact of these challenges as they head to the polls.

“They [NPP] have not been able to fulfil all the promises they made. They have also mismanaged our finances, we’re faced with severe hardships and battling debts. They told us we were sitting on money.

“The prices of kenkey have skyrocketed, and people are unable to afford a ball of kenkey. People have to buy more than one to be satisfied. When NDC was in power, a ball of Kenkey was sold at GHS1, now it’s GHS5. Someone mentioned that they have started selling GHS10 Kenkey.”
