Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), says Ghana is not only admired by the world for peace and stability but also for her religious tolerance.
“At the heart of Ghana’s peace is religious tolerance. I mean interfaith coexistence and tolerance,” he said.
The Vice President was addressing the congregation of the St. Paul Pro Cathedral of the Catholic Church in Sekondi on Sunday to usher in the Manifesto launch of the Party in Takoradi.
He said Ghana had become a role model for religious tolerance and called for continuous co-existence between all religions.
Dr Bawumia noted that the universal desire for peace transcended religious differences and stressed that peace was fundamental to human existence.
“When I visited the Vatican recently and met Pope Francis, he made it clear that the world admired Ghana’s religious tolerance,” he recalled.
“The Pope commended the harmonious relationship between Muslims and Christians and called for continuous love between these two dominated religions in the country.”
The NPP Flagbearer told the congregation that Muslims did not joke with the Catholic’s Virgin Mary and that, the Quran, even mentioned the Virgin Mary.
The Most Reverend Fr Michael Blay Morkeh,
Parish Priest of St Paul Pro Cathedral of the Catholic Church, Sekondi, said Dr Bawumia’s selection as the NPP’s flagbearer was divinely ordained.
He, therefore, prayed that God would fulfill the heart desires of the Vice President come December 7, 2024.
