In the face of resurfaced old video from 2015/2016, Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram and a key proponent of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, has dismissed attempts to tarnish his current stance on the matter.
The video, circulated on social media by members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), features George discussing homosexuality at a time when, according to him, there was no active LGBTQ+ advocacy in Ghana.
“I wonder if it is a lack of understanding, intentional mischief or both for anyone to say that I cannot hold my current views,” Sam George remarked on X, formerly Twitter, on the circulating video.
He emphasized the vastly different context of the earlier video, stating, “In 2015/16, there was no advocacy office opened in Ghana, no one was seeking to groom our kids and certainly no one was making a case for their rights to be recognized in Ghana.”
The MP, unapologetically, reiterated his current stance on the LGBTQ+ issue, attributing the recent “onslaught” to the changing landscape surrounding LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana.
He questioned the consistency of the NPP’s support for the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, particularly in light of the circulated video.
“Are these NPP folks saying they think we should allow homosexuality in its current onslaught to go unchecked? I thought they said they support the Bill.”
“Why are they so desperate to find something wrong somewhere,” Sam George questioned, expressing scepticism about the motives behind the scrutiny.
Undeterred by the controversy, the MP affirmed his commitment to the cause, declaring, “I would continue my advocacy with vigour and zest because I believe in the course I am sponsoring. We would #PassTheBill and fight trumu trumu. Nothing and no one would stand in our way. On GOD!”

I have seen a lot of NPP folks running around with a video from 2015/16 where I am speaking on the subject of homosexuality. I wonder if it is a lack of understanding, intentional mischief or both for anyone to say that I cannot hold my current views.
In 2015/16, there was no advocacy office opened in Ghana, no one was seeking to groom our kids and certainly no one was making a case for their rights to be recognised in Ghana.
Today, the onslaught is on and I have made my stance on the matter known, unapologetically. So what is the brouhaha?
Are these NPP folks saying they think we should allow homosexuality in its current onslaught to go unchecked? I thought they said they support the Bill? Why are they so desperate to find something wrong somewhere?
I would continue my advocacy with vigour and zest because I believe in the course I am sponsoring. We would #PassTheBill and fight trumu trumu. Nothing and no one would stand in our way. On GOD! 🦁🇬🇭🔥
