Secret audio exposes plot to remove IGP Dampare due to election rigging fears

A Police Commissioner self-identified as Mensa has been captured on secret audio advocating the removal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

He was discussing the situation with a politician who claims to be a former Northern regional chair of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

They expressed concerns that Dampare’s firmness may hinder manipulations during the upcoming 2024 elections.

The retiring Police Commissioner asserts that the IGP’s unwavering approach and the level of security provided during the Assin North by-election indicate that he will not tolerate any form of electoral rigging.

The Police Commissioner states in the leaked audio, “This IGP won’t help us. He wants everything to be done fairly, and we don’t win elections that way. If we don’t remove him, we can’t break the 8. In politics, we need manipulations, and this IGP won’t allow that.”

The Police Commissioner further expressed his frustration, claiming that despite his appeals to the President for the IGP’s replacement, his pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

He mentions that he is willing to assume the role himself or suggests appointing another suitable candidate, but the President has not shown receptiveness to their requests.

The leaked audio raises concerns about potential attempts to interfere with the appointment of the IGP based on fears of impartiality during the upcoming elections.
