President John Dramani Mahama has promised Ghanaians that his government would resolve the nation’s deepening economic crisis by the end of his four-year term.
Speaking before Parliament in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of his second term on February 27, 2025, he admitted the dire state of the economy but expressed unwavering determination to restore growth and prosperity.
“I, John Dramani Mahama, will tackle the economic turmoil facing our nation and guide it back to a thriving future,” he declared, setting an ambitious tone for his administration.
Mahama described the current challenges. “Our nation is in a tough spot—our economy is faltering, and Ghanaians are enduring hardships like never before,” he admitted.
He, however, pivoted to a solutions-driven mindset, distancing himself from excuses.
“I don’t come here to complain or point fingers, despite the many reasons to do so. My focus is on action.”
Drawing on his previous tenure from 2012 to 2017, the President touted his proven ability to deliver results, particularly in addressing Ghana’s infamous power outages.
“I made a promise to end dumsor, and I delivered. From January 2016 until I left office, there was no power rationing or load shedding,” he stated.
President Mahama’s address also laid out a clear vision for his administration, emphasizing bold policies aimed at stabilizing the economy and fostering national progress.
With a renewed mandate, he signalled a proactive approach to turning Ghana’s fortunes around within the next four years.
