The Soroptimist International Club of Accra has reinforced its dedication to combating discrimination, stereotypes, inequality, bias, and violence against women and girls.
As part of its commemoration of International Women’s Day, The Club stressed the significance of this global observance as not only a celebration of the remarkable achievements of women across various spheres but also as a crucial call to action to hasten the pace of achieving women’s equality.
It indicated that the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day, “Inspire Inclusion and Invest in Women,” serves as a beacon of hope and a call to arms for individuals and organizations worldwide to play a more active role in promoting gender equality.
“Can you imagine a world free from discrimination, stereotypes, inequality, bias, and violence? A world where no one will be left behind, especially, women and girls?” the statement said.
Despite the progress made since the landmark Beijing conference in 1995, the statement underscored the ongoing struggles faced by women in achieving equality and recognition.
It emphasized the need to escalate efforts against gender disparity through the empowerment of women, a cause to which the Soroptimist International Club of Accra has been steadfastly committed through its Programme Action.
The club’s efforts have concentrated on enhancing gender responsiveness and including women in community, national, and global decision-making processes.
“Fighting gender disparity and making a difference are some of the actions that make International Women’s Day impactful,” the statement read, reaffirming the organization’s pledge to work alongside like-minded groups to further these goals.
The Soroptimist International – Accra’s call to action, “Together we can inspire inclusion, leaving no one behind!!! Let’s accelerate progress by investing in Women! To Educate, Enable, and Empower Women and Girls is the Soroptimist mandate!! Let’s stand up for women! Together we can!!” serves as a powerful reminder of the collective effort required to advance gender equality.
As the world marks another International Women’s Day, the message from the Soroptimist International Club of Accra is clear: the time to invest in and empower women and girls is now. Their unwavering commitment to education, enablement, and empowerment is a testament to the transformative power of collective action in ushering in an era of gender equality.
